Wolf Gugler Executive Search Reaches 20 Year Milestone

May, 1997 marked the incorporation of Wolf Gugler Executive Search. We'd already established a reputation for talent recruitment and assessment in the DIY space; at this time
Aikenhead's/Home Depot was building their Canadian team and retained us to locate a number of key staff. Others quickly followed, reaffirming the decision to incorporate. Since then we've had the good fortune to expand our efforts throughout Canada, the US and the Caribbean. Recent searches include:
  • President, mid-sized DIY products
  • General Sales Manager, building products
  • Product Manager, building products
  • Quebec Region Sales Manager, hardware

Bonus Types For Sales Representatives

Last month we featured a recent Sibson Consulting study that determined 52% of organizations polled plan to use a sign-on bonus in 2017. We recently conducted an open survey to determine what bonus types companies are using. We allowed respondents to select more than one type; the chart reflects 180 responses we received.
Top line sales is still the most widely used yardstick to measure sales performance at 28%, with exceeding quota running second at 18%. As important as gross margin and EBITDA are to an organization, they came out as laggards compared to pure sales numbers.
In the 'other' category some measurements included:
  • customer retention
  • cost reduction

NATIONAL HARDWARE SHOW

The Show Was Great!    

NHS is undoubtedly on of the premiere events for the home improvement industry. I spent two days walking the show, visiting with exhibitors, clients and candidates. The traffic appeared to be up and there were many red retailer badges there, in particular those in e-commerce. The new product innovation area was chock full of interesting items from a variety of categories. It was a successful show for us; what's your take on it? We'd appreciate hearing your thoughts.
